남수정 작가 개관 초대전

해운대 바다 갤러리는 남수정 작가의 개인전을 개최합니다. 이번 전시는 작가가 오랜 시간 탐구해 온 꽃과 풀, 숲의 이미지를 통해 생명과 순환의 의미를 살펴봅니다.

부산을 기반으로 활동하는 남수정 작가는 부산대학교에서 한국화를 전공한 후 장지 위에 먹과 분채를 사용하는 독자적인 회화 세계를 구축해 왔습니다. 초기에는 물고기와 인물의 얼굴을 통해 현대 사회의 불안과 우울을 표현했으나, 2010년대 이후부터는 꽃과 풀, 숲을 주요 모티프로 삼아 작업을 이어오고 있습니다.

작가의 관심은 단순히 식물의 형태를 재현하는 데 있지 않습니다. 꽃과 잡초, 들풀이 지닌 생명력과 은유를 탐구하며, 실제 식물의 이미지를 넘어 존재 자체가 지닌 본질을 화면에 담아내고자 합니다. 화면을 채우는 치밀한 선들은 형태를 만들면서도 사실적인 공간감과 원근법을 의도적으로 배제하여, 현실을 재현하기보다 내면의 감정과 정신적 풍경을 드러냅니다.

남수정의 작품에 등장하는 풀꽃들은 흔히 길가나 담벼락 틈에서 마주치는 평범한 존재들입니다. 그러나 그의 화면 안에서 그것들은 척박한 환경을 견디며 살아가는 강인한 생명의 상징으로 다시 태어납니다. 얽히고설킨 줄기와 잎, 반복되는 선의 흐름은 성장과 변화, 순환이라는 자연의 질서를 보여주며 화면에 깊은 생명력을 부여합니다.

전통 한국화의 재료와 기법을 바탕으로 한 남수정의 회화는 동시대적 감각과 개인적 사유가 결합된 독자적인 조형 언어를 보여줍니다. 이번 전시는 작가가 오랜 시간 탐구해 온 생명의 본질과 회화적 사유를 만날 수 있는 자리가 될 것입니다.

Haeundae Bada Gallery is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Nam Su-Jeong. This exhibition explores the meanings of life and cyclical renewal through the artist's long-standing engagement with the imagery of flowers, grasses, and forests.

Based in Busan, Nam Su Jeong studied Korean Painting at Pusan National University and has developed a distinctive artistic language using ink and mineral pigments on traditional Korean paper. In her earlier works, she expressed the anxiety and melancholy of contemporary society through images of fish and human faces. Since the 2010s, however, her focus has shifted toward flowers, grasses, and forests, which have become the central motifs of her practice.

The artist's interest lies not in the simple depiction of plants but in investigating the vitality and symbolic meanings embedded within them. Through flowers, weeds, and wild grasses, she seeks to capture the essence of existence itself rather than merely reproducing natural forms. The intricate network of lines that fills her compositions creates recognizable forms while deliberately rejecting conventional spatial depth and perspective. Rather than representing reality, these lines reveal emotional states and inner landscapes.

The wildflowers that appear throughout Nam's paintings are often ordinary plants found along roadsides or in cracks between walls. Yet within her works, they are transformed into symbols of resilience and enduring life. Intertwined stems and leaves, together with the rhythmic repetition of lines, evoke the natural cycles of growth, change, and renewal, infusing the canvas with a profound sense of vitality.

Rooted in the materials and techniques of traditional Korean painting, Nam Su Jeong's work presents a unique visual language that combines contemporary sensibilities with personal reflection. This exhibition offers an opportunity to encounter the artist's long-standing exploration of the essence of life and her distinctive painterly vision.
